What an unforgettable journey!
Over the past eight days, our students experienced an incredible educational adventure through Guatemala and Belize, extending learning far beyond the classroom.
Our journey began in Antigua, Guatemala, where students lived with host families, practiced their Spanish in authentic, everyday situations, explored historic landmarks, visited local markets, and learned about Guatemala’s rich history and culture. They toured a coffee farm to discover the journey from bean to cup, participated in an authentic Guatemalan cooking class, learned how to salsa dance, and experienced the traditions and craftsmanship that make the region unique.
One of the highlights of the trip was hiking Pacaya Volcano, where students trekked across volcanic landscapes, observed hardened lava fields, witnessed the unique geology of one of Guatemala’s most active volcanoes, and even roasted marshmallows over the volcanic steam.
The adventure continued with an early morning flight to Flores and a visit to the breathtaking ancient Mayan city of Tikal. Students climbed towering temples, learned about one of the greatest civilizations in history, and encountered incredible wildlife, including spider monkeys, coatimundis, and the unforgettable calls of howler monkeys.
After crossing into Belize, students canoed through an ancient cave system where they observed evidence of the ancient Maya civilization, offering another unique opportunity to connect with the region’s rich history. They also visited a local school, where they donated supplies to help launch a new school year.
